Hi! Does anyone know the type of this plant. It seems like it is a rose tree. It has thorns. I did not have any flowers the last three years but one popped out a couple of days ago. Petals use to be yellow or pink (sorry, cant remember!); however, they are now white in color. Have included pics of the flower and underside of its leaves.
It's a rose, and you can do your own research this month! Douglas Justice's June 2021 in the Garden - UBC Botanical Garden blog is mostly about roses, and the first four photos are of four different roses with five white petals. Of the white ones, only the one with much larger flowers is open right now, but in another week or two, it would be worth a visit. I posted two growing outside Southlands Nursery last year, at Appreciation: - Roses | UBC Botanical Garden Forums. I assume the first one of the two is rare, but I don't really know.
Doesn't fit Rosa canina (that has glabrous leaves with less regular serration). Could be R. stylosa, but not enough detail visible in the flower; several other related wild roses are possible too. It'll need a lot more detailed pics for a firm ID.
