Can anyone help identify this plant, recently bought in Richmond, BC? The vendor could not identify it. Intense fragrance, seems like it could be a daphne, but the flowers are large, more than an inch long. Wondered about azaleas too, but the leaves don't seem to match.

Looks like an azalea similar to 'Snowbird', not certain though.

Thank you very much for that.

With your advice I then searched on the web, found some photos of Snowbird, and hit upon one that I think looks even more like it, at http://www.glendoick.com/content.php?page=newplants

They say about it, "AZALEA FRAGRANT STAR Tetraploid ‘Snowbird’ Small very scented white flowers. Better habit than ‘Snowbird’. Slow-growing. This is probably the most strongly scented azalea of all: amazing. "

Interesting, thank you, not familiar with that tetraploid one, should be hardy enough outside. The regular 'Snowbird' does get a little open growing, about 2.5' H x 3' W { .75m. H x 1m. W} in 10 years. Suckers a little which is good and the bluish green leaf is typical.
