"White" tree opposite Botanical Garden entrance

    I wonder what this white-leaved tree is ? It is across the road and north a bit from the entrance to the UBC Botanical Garden.

    It is inside the fenced area of the research station, so I could not get closer to it. It looks like the white parts are young leaves than will darken with age.

    iNaturalist did not give a definitive answer.

    The tree is at the top end of the red line, the photo of the tree was taken April 20, 2019, taken from the bottom end of the red line...

    Looks like White Poplar Populus alba.
