Along a walking trail in Belding Michigan we found a medium sized tree with heart-shaped leaves. The date iwas June 28 and the tree was loaded with white iris-like flowers with purple veins going out from the center. What kind of tree is this?

I hope you find out what it is because I am originally from MI and I have seen that kind of tree up there but I never knew what it was. I'm going to keep an eye out when I visit in Aug.

Assuming Chimera is right (which I think he likely is), note that it will have finished flowering by then! Look for long thin, bean-like seed pods instead.
