Here's a plant in a group I always have trouble with. Is it dill? Fennel? Help!! Captured Aug 4 2020 in Oak Harbor on SW Bayshore Dr across the street from Whidbey Island Bank. Anyone care to weigh in on this one? And if you can peg this, could you give me tips on the wee differences between the two, please?

Fennel is perennial with stout stalks and grayish leaves like in your pictures. Also it is now seen as a recurring weed in western Washington, including having recently produced a spectacular patch at the top of the vacant lot south of Pioneer and east of the pizza chain store at the Oak Harbor waterfront. You can use this infestation to compare your mystery with it.

    Fennel.

Dill is a smaller, more delicate plant, with marginally broader (less thread-like) leaflets.

Both are delicious herbs for culinary use.
