Could someone tell me which species this might be? It has mostly green stems, red only at joints and seems to grow more erectly than the pink species...sorry about the picture quality! Pic taken in Appalachians, Virginia. Thank-you!
P. hydropiper or P. punctata - better distinguished by seeds: roughened: http://www.pbase.com/image/109552558 smooth: http://phytoimages.siu.edu/imgs/paraman1/r/Polygonaceae_Persicaria_punctata_88253.html
Thank-you Andrey! It's one of those! Odd how they are wetland species....I mean this is a cove forest and though it can be humid it's hardly wetland habitat! I shall wait for the seeds....but I'm leaning towards P. hydropiper.
