what's the poofball?

    everyone i showed swears it's not part of the bush... but there were more than one and they were pink. this one's about done.

    Some kind of rose gall, maybe mossy rose gall ?

    I have lots of these on Rosa rubiginosa. Your plant looks like it may be this same species or a related one, perhaps the polymorphic R. canina. Both are naturalized in this region, and pestiferous in some portions of it.
