I have been thinning out the back yard and here's what I'm left with that I cannot identify.
There are several of these growing, 5 leaves attached to a stalk

    1. Maybe Virginia Creeper Parthenocissus quinquefolia
    2. Yes, an ash Fraxinus
    3. Amur Maple Acer ginnala
    4. Manitoba Maple Acer negundo
    5. possibly; needs a close-up of a shoot and leaves.
    6. Alder-leaved Buckthorn Frangula alnus (invasive weed in your area)
    7. probably a lilac Syringa, but not definite
    8. too blurred to tell, but could well be a current Ribes

Common lilac shown even has typical leaf damage. Inadvertent spelling "current" should be currant.

Thanks guys, the lilac is behind a larger lilac so it never bloomed due to too much shade and the leaves are much smaller so wasn't too sure.
This is a very neglected garden that I am trying to bring back and I would hate to cut something down that could have potential.

Any idea what the cause is? I've not seen similar damage over here.

Ooops! Yes, currant. No idea how that happened!!

    To err is human.
It's interesting this leaf damage, the larger lilac in front of it doesn't have any. It could be because it's been in the shade for who knows how many years that it has become weaker to any stress. We have had a very cool and wet summer and I have seen lots of powdery mildew in the region but none on these plants.
