What tree? Paper-thin balloon-shaped seed pods

    I saw this tree on the Carmelia walk or near it, alongside the golf course in Stanley Park in Vancouver, and my friend took the photos for me. I assumed these were simple opposite leaves, but now I'm not sure. The leaf edges are finely toothed. The very hard fruit or seed is encased in (and firmly attached to) a thin puffy round shell (no sides, but with a seam down the centre) and there were several of these hanging in clusters.

    Wow, looks just like the Wikipedia photos. Thanks, Lila. Also called Bladdernut or Jonjoli. The flowers look pretty - I'll have to make a point of noticing them next year. It's apparently rare in Vancouver - not mentioned at all in Straley's book on the trees in our city.
