What plant is this?

I guess I submitted my question to the wrong forum. I'll try again.

This plant is growing in Poughkeepsie, NY, USA, at the bottom of my flag pole and I have no idea what it is. Can anyone help me?

looks like it is a type of celosia most probably 'cristata'. it is in the same family as amaranth or love lies bleeding
