This plant is coming up all over my flower garden. I can not rid myself of it until I know what it is... I need HELP??
I thought so at first but the side leaves are not smooth on one side. A naturalist thought us that mother nature made each side like a mitten and the middle one with two sides of a mitten. In Michigan the side leaf has a smooth side ... these are jagged on both sides/.. I thought maybe poison oak. but there are so many in my garden in the last 4 weeks. and never there before. thanks.,...
How close to a wooded lot (with presumably poison ivy in it) do you live? If not nearby, I'd find it hard to imagine an invasion without a nearby source population. Do you have a bird feeder, and if so, is your garden under one of the bird flying zones? Another thought - do your neighbours have any trees with similar leaves? I'm not convinced it is a poison ivy relative (though I'd still handle it with appropriate caution until knowing for certain).
I agree it's Poison Ivy, there are many leaf variations and no rule of thumb can cover them all. If there's no other possible source I'd agree with birds carrying in the seeds. I remove several plants each year where birds roost at night. HTH Chris
