What kind of orchid? (Seen in a botanical garden in New Zealand.)

    Any ideas what species of orchid this is? I saw it in a greenhouse at Hamilton Gardens in Hamilton, New Zealand. Doesn't appear to be a native New Zealand species, at least not according to this website (if it's truly exhaustive).

    It's a Cymbidium of some sort. It's not a New Zealand native, the genus gets only as close as northern Australia.

    Your right its not a native to New Zealand though we grow it extensively for the Asian export market. The blooms last cut up to 4 weeks and when on the plant 6 weeks or more. They are waxy and often fragrant and available in many different colours fairly easy to grow This site might be helpful http://www.cymbidium.org/branch.html
