Okay this plant is currently growing in my backyard. My mother planted it but cannot remember what it is (she has dementia). My best guess is it is likely a fruit plant.... I think. Again sorry but I have no clue.
Looking like this and having an edible component points to it being taro, a name used for several species. The root is processed into a paste that is consumed.
Specifically, the taro you're looking at is Colocasia esculenta - it's the only one that produces such small leaves. Ron - the tubers (and that's what they are) can be used in more ways than just paste. I'm very fond of taro chips, as well as sliced taro in soups.
