It would help to know what part of Texas and more about the leaves and leaf arrangement. Does the stem have "wings" on it? Looks sort of like a Wingstem, Actinomeris sp. or Verbesina sp.
Might have to have finer details of the flower structures. PHOTOS

I actually don't know where it is from or any details other than the picture given that I'm engaged in a debate with someone over what the flower is (picture came from the net). She thinks it is a marigold. I'm out to prove her wrong.

If you could post a link to the image instead of posting it here as an attachment, I'd be more comfortable (you can edit your initial post) - if it isn't your photo, it is quite possibly under someone else's copyright and not for use here.

this is brush sunflower or Simsia calva .I have these growing all over my backyard! They grow in a huge bush form with flowers all over the Lesser Goldfinch eats the seeds in the late fall and into the winter:) They are so pretty!! If the plant is smaller then it's Wedelia. Hope this helps!!

After looking closer at the picture I will say it's a type of wingstem! Sorry for the confusion. I agree with Tipularia.
