I have been surveying Nature Preserves in our town (East Hampton, N.Y.) and I have found this tree on two of our preserves. I would love to know what it is.

    Consider Styrax japonicus

It might be noteworthy that you have found it growing wild there.

Yes, I have now found it on three nature preserves and have seen it along the road in another spot. Hope it doesn't prove to be a troublesome invader.
