What is this tree ? Carya ?

    I am not sure what this tree sapling is. Can this be Carya cordiformis ?

    Even zooming in I cannot see enough detail to see what the leaves look like.
    Cannot tell if compound leaves or not.
    Please can you add clear close ups.

    Actually, I now believe it's just an elder (Sambucus nigra).

    Looks good for a hickory seedling to me. Elder can be discounted, as yours has alternate leaves, elder has opposite leaves.

    Sorry to be that confused, but the picture I posted was not the one I intended to post ; and was indeed the picture of a Carya cordiformis.
    I will post the correct picture soon.

    Here is the correct picture ; note that there is a stake close to the sapling I would like to identify

    Could that be a Carya glabra ?
    Its variation Carya ovalis can have red twigs and veins like this one.

    Here is a new picture. I have surrounded it in red. The other things are sticks.
    Given the color, I would say it is a Carya cordiformis
