This picture was taken a couple of days ago. The plant was about 10 inches high when planted 3 years ago. As you can see, they are fast growers. Does anyone have any idea what this might be? Someone said it may be a type of sunflower, but it looks more like a huge daisy. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
After doing some research, I think it may be Helianthus tuberosus L. - Jerusalem artichoke. Due to the height, over 8ft. tall, it rules out Swamp Sunflower. Thanks for the replies, it gave me a direction to go in. Jerusalem Artichoke is considered "invasive". What exactly does that mean? It sounds ominous.
I wouldn't rule out the swamp sunflower because of height. It grows to 6-8 feet and when I lived in Georgia I encountered taller than that. It also has narrow leaves like your plant.
That's what I get for believing everything I read on the USDA site. They stated that 5.6' was the max height for the Swamp Sunflower. Thanks again for your help. BTW, are Swamp Sunflowers considered invasive?
I don't think they are invasive. I cannot be certain of the ID. That was just a guess, because I know the plant is commonly grown in your area.
