What is this plant?

    It looks just like an olive but it's very hard and almost has an apple smell when cut in half. It's growing one a tree and I live in Sacramento, CA. Here's the pic of the leaves and fruit. I hope someone knows! Thanks!

    Prunus salicina or another stone fruit.

    are they edible?

    well,I don't think they are that. They are completely green and already falling off the tree. They are also about an inch to ince and half long. I should have mentioned this before. Do you think local nurseries would know?
