joclyn, our name for it is "Dutch Iris" they grow them by the acre over in the next valley for the flower and bulb trade. Liz
you're welcome, ak! hi, liz! i guess that's a local term. i can't find anything that calls them 'dutch' here's some info about the different varieties from the american iris society
Have a look at this one http://www.gardenexpress.com.au/index.html?target=dept_5.html&lang=en-us This is main page http://www.gardenexpress.com.au/index.html?target=dept_5.html&lang=en-us I do think it may be local. The ones I know grow from a bulb not a rhizome. Liz
Dutch iris is a common common name for the iris in the bouquet, which does grow from a bulb. (NB: "Common" is repeated intentionally there!) Glancing at their website, it's rather mysterious how the American Iris Society deals with bulb-type irises, but I suppose perhaps they are under "species" irises?
