This strange flower was photographed halfway up Mount Carleton in New Brunswick about 10 days ago. It was about 6" tall and appeared in a small cluster of 3 or 4. I've tried a few plant identification websites, but none offer 'translucent stem' as a search option. Any suggestions? Jeff J
Jeff, I've seen this in Northern Maine, in the woods. Someone told me it's called a "Dutchman's Pipe," a type of mushroom. I don't know if I'm right but it's something you can check out. Terry
Wikipedia mentions two plants with the common name [WIKI]Dutchman's Pipe[/WIKI]. Neither is a mushroom. One is related to Monotropa uniflora, but is not a mushroom (as explained in the BPotD entry).
