Weed ID please

Over the course of this year, this weed has taken over my backyard. Can anyone please help me identify it. It is vine like and crawls across the ground, but not up like weedy vines that wrap around plants or poles.

 

Looks like Persicaria sp .Hope this helps.

 

Or a (very closely related) Polygonum species.

Curious - is that one also an aquatic plant?

I recall one plant that grows around lakes or ponds - or in them - with a similar appearance. Don't remember the name right now.

 

No water in my area. We have had a lot of rain this year. We have clay soil.
