Could somebody please identify this vine that hitched a ride with the cedar mulch I purchased last year. The vine does not seem to grow very long or thick but some of the roots were over 12 feet long before they broke while I was pulling them out. The roots have pod like tubers every three to five inches. I had them last year but was fairly diligent pulling them out so I do not know if it flowers. I tried a web and search through all my books but have come up empty handed. Thanks

    Wow,

It definitly looks like it. That is a pleasant surprise. We live where the Nashoba Indians once lived and not far from Walden Pond where Henry David Thoreau dined upon them. They may be native plants that I never noticed before and not hitch hikers from the cedar mulch. Thank you very much for the ID. Now I don't feel so bad for not pulling them all up today. I am still debating if I should go through the garden cart full of weeds I pulled today and harvest the nuts. I think I would be able to gather a pound or two just from the cart. Thankfully they were growing in lilly of the valley and blackberry and not poison ivy. THANKS!
