I would like to ask for some help to identify this seedling growing in with a hosta that was potted up over the winter. I often will get walnut trees as gifts from the squirrels as they hide their winter food supply in my potted plants and this has the same growth appearance. I have many variegated Japanese Maples in the yard but this is the first time I have seen anything like this. Can anyone offer any suggestions? The last photo is at full resolution and you can zoom in on the image.

    Thanks,

    Ed

Nice one so far, but has to be grown on for years to see if stable. Although I haven't ever seen a partly white walnut myself it seems at least several other kinds of trees frequently grown from seeds in nurseries give numerous variegated seedlings. However, probably few of these prove to be stable.

    Chris and Ron,

Thanks for the input. I have found many Japanese Maples seedlings and have been growing them for over 15 years. I have also discovered a variegated cherry seedling that lived for four years and then did not make it through a cold winter two years ago. I hope this last a while so that it may be grafted to see if charestics last.

I had a white variegated Pacific red elderberry pop up in the yard once. I accidentally hoed it off.
