Unknown yellow fruits

Hi experts and afficianados!

While out photographing at Strybing Arboretum here in San Francisco, I came across this tree, absolutely laden with small yellow fruits:

My knowledge of fruits is limited to what I buy at the Farmer's Market!

I'd say probably Crataegus pubescens (Mexican Hawthorn or Tejocote)

You should take the 'e' out of your "hawthorne" caption.

Thanks - spelling it with an 'e' is reflexive. Darn literature classes! =)

 

In Mexico, you can buy them at farmers' markets, they are edible.

 

Commonly planted Lavalle hawthorn is a hybrid of it, you can see the similarity in the leaves and the structure of the fruits, even though Lavalle hawthorn has reddish fruits.
