In The Garden: Unknown plant

    Could someone help me identify this plant. It has grown to about 6-7 feet tall. Location is eastern Canada (zone 5). Seeds pop like popcorn when touched.

    Himalayan balsam, I think, but I really can't remember the Latin name. Impatiens I think.

    That is exactly what it is. When given the seeds I was told it was Hawaiian Balsam, but could never find any information about it on the web. All makes sense now!

    Thanks so much! After the hurricane tomorrow I should have them growing everywhere next summer!

    Yep, Himalayan Balsam Impatiens glandulifera. Invasive over here too.
