    What is this, please?
It is a 10ft, multi-stemmed, evergreen shrub growing in shade near Washington D.C. It has 3" x 1.5", opposite, shiny, ovate, serrate leaves. Stems are green on current and previous year's growth. Current year's stems are ridged. Flowers were not open on 22 July. They are profuse, umbel-like cymes with ~14 green, spherical buds ~1/10 inch across. The pedicel is ~1" and green, mostly 2 pairs per stem, the upper in leaf axils, the lower with only scales.

p.s. Excuse the recovering botanist's attempt at technical description! The picture is probably enough.
