Unknow garden plant

    This flower is in a friends yard and no one knows what it is or where it came from. A new one just came up on the other side of the yard. The flower itself is about 12 inches long with a black of dark purple spike in the center. The leaf is quiet large.

    Dracunculus vulgaris. Native to the eastern Mediterranean region.

    Second time this species has come up in the last 3 days!

    Yes, now wouldn't it be nice if someone had titled their thread "strange purple stinky plant" or something along those lines, then new posters might look at that thread before posting the same question!

    Thanks for the identify. I did not smell any odor, guess it was through with that. I see that it is also called a Viagra Plant, think that I know why.

    Haven't heard that one before. Nowadays many are calling it voodoo lily, although when I was younger it seemed this was always used for Sauromatum instead. I think it's an example of transference of a common name.
