Unidentified deciduous shrub

    Does anyone have any idea what this shrub is? South facing in a N. Vancouver yard. Is it maybe a lilac??

    Judging from how it looks now, probably turn out to be Syringa x prestoniae when it leafs out and flowers.

    It could be a Lilac or it may be a sumac.

    Willow and sumac can be discounted because they both have alternate buds, not in opposite pairs as here
