Hiking in the Carson National Forest in northern New Mexico (near Taos), I saw trees, no more than 8 feet tall, with red berries. The berry is mostly seed, with just a little flesh, both yellow in color. Located near running water. Altitude about 8500 ft ASL.
Can someone identify this for me?

Looks like a Prunus leaf but I am not familiar with NM or the native flora.....

I've looked up Prunus Virginia in my Trees and Shrubs of New Mexico book and that appears to be right on. Thanks!
