Hiking in the Carson National Forest in northern New Mexico (near Taos), I saw trees, no more than 8 feet tall, with red berries. The berry is mostly seed, with just a little flesh, both yellow in color. Located near running water. Altitude about 8500 ft ASL. Can someone identify this for me?
Western Chokecherry I've looked up Prunus Virginia in my Trees and Shrubs of New Mexico book and that appears to be right on. Thanks!
