Spotted a number of these trees in Shoreline Park (Port Moody) a few weeks ago, in a mixed woodland area that borders a marsh, which gives way to mud flats. Is it cascara (rhamnus purshiana)? Photos of the foliage, leader, and the entire tree, below.
Locally naturalized Juglans cinerea was mentioned in a recent thread, this is that tree or similar - Frangella purshiana produces undivided leaves with noticeable veins like engraving or penciling, multi-colored autumn tints including purple and red, and straight branches.
Thanks, Ron. Interesting, I didn't know there was a naturalized Juglans cinerea here...does that mean this is technically "invasive"?
I don't think it's been listed as an invasive in anything official yet, but it should certainly be monitored. It can be found with some frequency in the Fraser Valley.
