Do you need leaves to identify or can this tree be identified simply by its branches. I just too these pics yesterday and thought someone might be able to help me figure out what kind of tree I have in the yard of my new home. I wondered if it might not be a 'lilac' tree? Anyway, I really have no idea and hope someone can help me. Thank you.

Thank you Jimmy and Chimera. I can't believe I was right. You guys are going to make a gardener outta me yet. I'm glad it's a lilac. I've loved lilac trees since I was a kid. Maybe that's why I recognized it.
