Checking through many sites listing lickens, liverworts and mosses, including a couple of books with very poor photographs, I have come to the conclusion that this moss is Tortula ruralis. Would appreciate help from any member. I have only arrived at this conclusion purely by comparison and not by knowledge.
Could also be Grimmia or related genus. Without microscopic details of leaves and sporophytes, it is difficult to make a definite call. The mosses key is very difficult: http://www.mobot.org/plantscience/BFNA/V1/KeyToMosses_2.htm or same key with a different title: http://www.tela-botanica.org/projets/55/telechargement/14450
Thanks Andrey for your, always helpful, suggestions. When I have an ID problem, I am always sure to find you coming to my aid. I will check the links you have given me. Ciao, duffy
