This strange plant was seen on top of the Coprosma sp (background). The plant in the foreground appears to have thread like , pink coloured stems with tiny white flowers but no leaves? I tried to pull this weed out but could not find its roots anywhere to pull out.
Is this plant a parasite feeding on the Coprosma? Can someone pls ID

Dodder is a fascinating plant which moves itself to 'sniff' for the chemical signatures of host plants. Once identified, it moves towards the host to latch on. So, a plant which hunts by scent, capable of moving to it's prey and ultimately, detaching from it's own roots and moving onto the host....always thought of dodders as straddling the conceptual line between plant and animal in this regard.

Interesting too that in some cases, it actually assists the larger plant community by controlling the rampant growth of some host species vis-a-vis other plants on the same site.
