Found in the central of North Carolina in a mulch bed. There are several spread throughout. It appears as though it is coming out of a thin skin which curls into a point. When laid on a tissue it leaves behind moisture. Unpleasant smell. Red spikes with white tips, off white body between spikes. Probably a little over 2 feet tall before I brought it inside to see if anyone knew what it might be. Stem is a traditional green color.
    Pictures attached. Thanks in advance!

It appears you may be correct but all of the info I can find on that particular flower place it on the western side of the map, none in North America. Guess it could be a variation or I'm missing some info?

    Could it be crow garlic?

Well, if it is crow garlic, it would scientifically be Allium vineale, which has a reputation for being invasive.
