Shape and colour remind me of Chamaecyparis obtusa Fernspray Gold. A close up of the foliage would be needed to confirm id.
Thank you, that looks like it. I really wanted the dark green version - which I assume would just be Fernspray. Any ideas where I should start looking for it?
Stocked by regular outlets here, so garden centers there may have it also. Try making some phone calls.
Don't know if there is such a tree as just "Fernspray", it is certainly not listed in the current "Plant Finder". As published by the R.H.S. (Royal Horticultural Society).
"Fernspray' is used as a synomyn for C. obtusa 'Filicoides' sometimes, not sure if that is the plant in the photo though. Also a 'Filicoides Compacta' referred to as 'Fernspray Cypress', and then 'Compact Fernspray'. Can be a little confusing with multiple names used, a closeup photo may help.
One shown above definitely a golden form. I think most of the 'Filicoides' I am seeing at local outlets recently are probably coming from here: http://www.monrovia.com/learn/plant_catalog/detail.php?id=213
