I've a generous smattering of these guys growing along the side of my house (Upstate New York, USA). Rather than waffle on descriptively about it, I've got these two photos.

It has a lot of characteristics of plants I've variously seen described online as "silverrod", "white goldenrod", "Solidago bicolor" and so on, but according to the widely varying photos online, none of them quite seem to match the plant shape or positioning of the flowers that I have here, even though more than one site proudly proclaims that there's only one species of non-yellow goldenrod (the S. bicolor).

I wonder if anyone can confirm my suspicions of a the Solidago genus and elaborate on whether it's a useful variety to have around, a pest, an invasive nightmare or what? Incidentally, contrary to many of the photos I found of similar things, those tiny white flowers on my plants never opened up, but have started turning into the seed puffs directly from the state they're photographed in here.

Thanks as always for the invaluable feedback!

    Gavin

(P.S. The names of the JPGs is entirely presumptive and in no way indicates that I know what I'm talking about!)

Conyza canadensis it most assuredly must be!

This is actually a pretty useful identification, because I'll hesitate even less in getting rid of it, now that I know it's probably a significant contributor to my wife's allergies at this time of year.

    Much obliged,

    Gavin
