In an old established stately home garden in SW scotland, (Gulf stream) now very wild & overgrown I have found masses of purple flowers about the size and shape of a purple crocus, but growing in dense masses about a foot square. It is very damp and shady and the flower is growing on wet rotting fallen wood debris. (similar to how a fungus grows.) There are no leaves. It looks more tuberous than bulb like.
    Anyone recognise it please?
