I have 3 dogwood trees on our property. Over the last 2 years they don't look so hot. There have been limbs that have died and the trees don't fully leaf out. This year one tree bloomed but has no leaves. The other two leafed out, but no blooms. What should I be doing for these trees? I currently do nothing except prune the dead branches and scratch my head as to what is happening to them. I am located in the foothills of Northern California. Aprrox 1500 ft. Our summers are hot and dry. I don't irrigate the trees, but doubt that it is drought as this spring has been wet and not hot yet. The trees are on a hillside that is well drained. The soil here is a red volcanic clay. Additionally, the trees are under partial canopy of Oaks and a Doug Fir. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. My wife and I love these trees and would hate to lose them. Thanks
Hi Sdoerr, Sorry to hear this. Dogwoods have been affected by dogwood anthracnose. Take a look here to see if the symptoms fit. http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7420.html Newt
