Seed identification

    Howdy friends! I was wondering if anyone has any ideas regarding the identity of the plant seed pictured below. It was recently found, among many, lying along the pathway of snowy railroad tracks in upstate NY. The seed looks and feels like a peanut, and has a slick, transparent skin that can be peeled away. Thanks!

    Yes, if it fell off a train it could be a field crop such as that one.

    The size of it is not quite clear, but it could be Phaseolus vulgaris L.

    It would be hard to ID it for sure, unless you can get it to sprout. Considering agriculture and shipping, my guess is Glycine max.
