We live at the edge of town in Rossland, B.C. A new roadway was cut nearby. In the disturbed soil : up came a plant not encountered before . A rather weedy looking plant; thin main stem 10-14" tall, with small alternate simple leaves. Remarkable Rose Red Cross shape long lasting flowers 1/2 to 2'' also running up the stem. Blooms variegated to pinks and purple. Stunning. What is it?

    Certainly looks like it.
Says endemic to California, we are a ways north of that, most likely had a helping hand.
It is in a sunny protected s.e. facing nook.
    Thanks Texas
