I have a young tree in my backyard - approx. 5 yrs. old. that i am having trouble identifying. Please help.

There are two different leaf patterns.

    smooth/pinkish bark.

I'm concerned this is a weed - and worried that I let it establish itself ...

    Thank you so much!!!!
    The quest is over!
-now / I wonder if I should keep it.
I actually seem to have 3 such trees (saplings) in my yard.....not a huge space - and don't think they all need to remain...

    (Not a terribly attractive species)...

Well...mulberries tend to be unruly and messy...but the fruit is edible by humans and other animals.

Perhaps you could remove the lesser saplings and leave one---see how it goes? (Grows?) One factor in this decision would be location: suggest sparing the tree that does NOT overhang your parking spot!

Some folks regard mulberries as To Be Got Rid Of.
I say---if you like the tree, and can realistically coexist with its enthusiastic habit---keep it!
