In December I was walking with friends in Salerno, Italy observing what has to be one of the better city wide Christmas light shows an found these seeds pods on a tree (many trees) that lined the boardwalk along the beachfront. They opened to reveal several small red seeds. Can anyone tell me what kind of tree they came from and whether or not these seeds will germinate if I try to grow them. Thanks.
David: Thanks for the quick reply. Did some further looking and was suprised to find them in Italy since they are mostly found in Australia.
They look more like fruits of the Japanese species Pittosporum tobira, widely cultivated in warmer temperate regions. Definitely not P. revolutum, which has large fruits with a wrinkled skin.
