    Hi,

We moved into our new house a few weeks ago, and we have two of this unknown tree in the garden. I've been looking at different websites, and actually found a page where someone had been looking to identify the same tree, with no success. I've taken their picture (see link below), and was wondering if anyone could identify the berry. They are about the size of a large raspberry or small strawberry, orangey red, and have small spikes all over their surface, each of which is surrounded by a diamond or pentagonal pattern. The inside is yellow and has the texture of a ripe mango, though I don't know if that's just because it's been sat next to me for a while!

The tree itself is around 6 feet tall, with broad, rounded leaves around 3 inches long.

Any help would be very appreciated!

Thank you, that looks just like it!

I tried another website that led me to a plain flowering dogwood, and that didn't look quite right, but this seems to look the same.

    Thanks!

Yep, Cornus kousa. The fruit is edible.
