Hi All, Would appreciate input on a white, showey, long blooming, Kousa that is not shrubby and not too wide, for the Pacific Northwest (Zone 7-8). After surfing the net for the last week I am overwhelmed. Would also like some input on a dwarf, varigated, kousa or similar shade tolerant year round interest tree. Where to buy these quality trees in Vancouver Lower Mainland would also be appreciated. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Luv the forum. Jen
Hi Jen Unfortunately, Kousa tends to naturally of a shrubby habit, often growing as wide as tall. Some do, however tend to be more tree-like in stature. You might look for Chinensis types such as the strain labeled 'Milky Way', which is commonly available. Other highly regarded cultivars that might meet your need for a more vigorous grower include 'Blue Shadow' and 'Moonbeam'. The variegated variety 'Wolf Eyes' is one of the most highly regarded and is a slower and smaller grower.
