Noticing very long load times with forum post. Is anyone else experiencing this? Happens in Firefox and Chrome so I don't think it's browser related. Most times I just cancel and hit the link again. But if I wait long enough sometimes the post comes up, sometimes I get a blank page.
Wow! That didn't take long. Everything's going gangbusters now. Thanks, whomever is responsible. Will update if problem returns.
Yes, but not at the moment. It occurs most often when I do a refresh to see if there are new posts. It also occasionally occurs when I click individual posts. Chrome is affected just as is Firefox. No other non-UBC forum has this issue. http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/index.php just hit refresh on this link and Chrome is hanging re-loading the page
Well, nothing has changed on this end -- other than a possible heavy load on the server from time to time (which I can't check at the moment). I wonder if something has gone awry with java? I'm fairly certain java caches scripts, but I'm not certain if the same cache is stored across browsers. Someone else was experiencing some laggy slowdowns last week, and they cleared their cache nad they were off to the races.
Just cleared the cache for both browsers and it's still hanging in Chrome. -----and just now in Firefox
Bah. Well, I'm on the road and can't look into this extensively for another couple weeks. The only other thing I can suggest is to see if you have multiple versions of java loaded on your PC, and unload the older ones: http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml
This is Linux, which means the repositories automatically install and remove Java updates. No user intervention, that can be a mixed blessing if there's an inherent problem with the latest release. I did verify I have only one Java version installed.
I'm surprised at the Java comment, since I took someone's advice and uninstalled it some months ago. I didn't exactly understand what problem that was supposed to address - something about exposure to foreign intrusion. I figured I could just reinstall it if I noticed I was missing anything, and that didn't happen, but I see that it's back, or at least two updates and a Runtime Environment show as being installed.
