    Might be Aromatic Aster, Symphyotrichum oblongifolium. ?

    I recall that from several trips to the redwoods. Don't know the name, specifically.

    But if you call the Crescent City redwood park visitor center, and describe it as a tall Asther-like plant with a rather open habit (stemmy), good chance Michael (there) or one of the others can name it. They probably have a wildflower book on their bookstore shelf too.
