please help

    my friend went on vacation and took this photo. we both do not know what it is. maybe somebody out there knows.

    Went on vacation... to where? If someone can't name it offhand, location is usually a good clue!

    Thailand is the place, found this near the beach. she said it is big and heavy. the locals told her it is a fruit.

    got a reply from somebody from the Philippines. he said this is the fruit of Nypa fruticans.

    I googled it and saw this is a mangrove palm.
