I know this is a cypress tree. but can anyone tell me which kind it is. I planted two kinds one was a Monterey Cypress and another was from the Fort Hood, Texas area, not sure which kind it was. it has five cotyledons, if this helps. I have included three pictures, two of the seedling from different angles, and one of the seed casing that fell off the seedling. please help kind of important to me thank you
Five cotyledons is possible for American Cupressus sp., it needn't be a pine. As to which species of Cupressus, far too early to tell!
Also there aren't any (native) "Cypress" in Fort Hood unless you're referring to Taxodium distichum, which isn't a Cupressus. HTH Chris
Not sure where Fort Hood is (it isn't listed in my atlas), but Cupressus arizonica is native in the far west of Texas. Taxodium seeds (8-12mm) are distinguishable from Cupressus seeds (4-6mm) by their much larger size. Difficult to tell the size of the seed in the third pic without a ruler for scale.
