Hello, I'm new in this forum and I hope you can help me. I'm just back from the Philippines and I really need to know the name of a shrub I found there. It is about 3 to 5 metres in height and it could be that the flowers on the trunk in the pictures belong to the it, because I found them on all specimens I observed. I would place the plant in the family of the Melastomataceae, but I'm not sure at all. If you can help me with anything then I would be really happy. Thank you all in advance! Now the pictures... You're right on the family. Check out Sonerila, Astronia, and Pternandra. I personally think that it's closest in form to Astronia.
Thank you for the suggestions. I was thinking about Astronia, too, but I found no species that loooked like mine. Other suggested Medinilla, what do you think bout this? There are some species with flowers very similar to those on my photos.
I was leery of suggesting Medinila, because what is in your photos looks more like fruiting bodies than flowers to me. However, I could be (and often am) wrong. The Melastomataceae is a huge family and pantropically distributed, which makes IDing them a pain.
