Just moved to a new house and these four plants have me stumped. The first two have one photo each, and the last two have two each. The last cactus looking plant has an additional photo of the sprout coming up in the middle. Thanks!
Looks like young bamboo, hosta and yucca plants. Not sure about the bamboo. Would have to look into it further. The hosta is in the background of the same phto. The Yucca seem to be more than onr variety. Just a quick off the top of my head answer.
the first i don't know...kinda like peony - would have more leaves on it though at that height. the second could be hosta or some type of lily. the third looks more like an aloe to me. the last one is definitely yucca - i've got the same one. mine hasn't flowered yet - i'm hoping for spikes this year (it's three years since transplanting them). please post pics again when they bloom.
#2 canna #3, #4 Kniphofia sp.... EDIT: Changed my mind - Aloe sp., as was mentioned! #5, #5 Yucca, possibly Y. filamentosa. I don't know #1 but it's not peony.
No 3- 4 red hot poker = Kniphofia http://www.burkesbackyard.com.au/19...en/flowering_plants_and_shrubs/red_hot_pokers No 2 definatly Canna no 5-6 Yucca about to flower into a glorious bunch of cream flowers. Watch those spikes if in a traffic area. Might be an idea to snip some tips off. Liz
I'd have said that third one, with the flower spike is a Red Hot Poker(Kniphofia) rather than a Yucca. Yucca flowers are white and on a much taller spike. Kniphofia and Aloe are similar and of course related but aloes tend to have thicker leaves.
Thanks, Liz, the Yucca is in a high-traffic area and we were wondering if it was ok to trim the front of it back so it doesn't get stepped on. Jan
I recognise that first plant now,I see a tiny heart shaped leaf at the bottom which tells me its Japanese Knotweed. You might want to get rid of that before it takes over your garden!
there are many types of aloe - with a wide variety of leaf shape/size also flower heads vary in size from very small to very large. jan, please post pics when the third one is in bloom...really the only way to tell for sure if it's aloe or kniphofia...
GreenLarry OMG, what was it, you couldn't get them wet? or were they mating? I can't remember , but that was my favorite !
Here are a few more of the Japanese Knotweed, it's truly sprouting everywhere, but I can't help wanting to see what it looks like later as the seasons pass. Jan
